If you get a marriage licence, but don't end up getting married, do you need to cancel the license?

I know there are lots of searchable public records and stuff, so would you have to cancel a license? Does just getting a license make you married, or do you have to go through with the marriage? Does the county office match up stuff later, or just assume you're married if you get a license? If you get a marriage licence, but don't end up getting married, do you need to cancel the license?

no. They are registered as ';filed'; for the license. And then nothing happens until it is signed by both people AND the Minister or Notary or whoever conducted the marriage ceremony and then filed with the proper state agency.
No, you do not need to cancel the license. It will just expire on it's own.
